Crisis Intervention

Once the person in question is located, the BHCT team members on duty will employ a skilled suicide intervention process in order to establish a connection and help diffuse the high levels of stress and distress being experienced that have brought the despondent person to Beachy Head.

The processes used are similar to those used by law enforcement negotiators around the world. The team can be found talking to someone who is still in their vehicle, making their way on the downland or who has already arrived at the cliff edge with the intention of jumping. At this stage we continue to work closely with Sussex Police and HM Coastguard for the full rescue of the individual.
