During the month of May 2009, Beachy Head Chaplaincy were involved in 59 incidents/searches for those in distress resulting in the rescue of 14 persons who were depressed or suicidal. The team also assisted the Emergency Services with 5 other incidents. There were also sadly 5 deaths at the Cliffs during the month, including an incident involving the death of a couple along with their already deceased child who was found in a backpack. The bodies of the couple were found by a routine Coastguard patrol on Sunday evening. BHCT was in attendance with the Coastguards at the time. As always our prayers are for the relatives and friends of those who have sadly lost their lives. May God comfort them in their grief. Since the team began operations in August 2004 up until the end of May 2009 Beachy Head Chaplaincy Team has been involved in 2447 incidents resulting in the rescue of 777 persons who were depressed or suicidal. The team was started by Pastor Ross Hardy who was operational team leader until September 2008 when the present team leader Clair McGinty-Gibbs took over that role, supported by Ben Russell as Deputy team leader. Ross remains Director of Beachy Head Chaplaincy Team. |
