Heavy Snow
During the recent heavy snows, as well as our normal response to incidents at Beachy Head, BHCT used its 4x4 vehicles alongside the Coastguard teams from Eastbourne, Bexhill and Hastings as well as RAYNET to assist in the emergency response. During the heaviest of the snow, the team transported patients and staff to and from the Eastbourne District General Hospital, up as far as mid Sussex and to Hastings in the east and as far as Brighton in the west.

2009 a record year for BHCT

Happy New Year to you!

2009 was a record year for Beachy Head Chaplaincy Team. June, July and October were the teams first, second and fourth busiest months, respectively, since BHCT began operations in August 2004. The year itself saw an 11% increase in searches and incidents attended by the team and a 30% increase in persons rescued compaired to 2008.

2009 saw BHCT attend 782 incidents / searches for those in distress which resulted in the rescue of 283 persons who were depressed or suicidal. In the vast majority of the other incidents/searches the persons were found not to be at Beachy Head. These figures mean that 2009 was the busiest year for BHCT so far.

The figures for searches and incidents in November and December were 71 and 51, and the persons rescued were 20 and 21.
